Is it a crossover or a hatchback? If it's a hatchback, I think I might like it, but if it's a crossover, then I'm confused. Mercedes calls it an SUV, but that's clearly ridiculous.

It's a crossover. It's pretty good looking in my opinion.

It's a crossback and the AMG version is such a stupid idea that I love it!

Aren't these supposed to be useful? Where's the damn storage area??

I like the quirky little thing, but not in white. Which is odd because it's my favorite color on most cars. It's whatever the X1 and Subaru Crostrek are.

CLA-series hatch, in a sense. I like it, but it looks pretty useless.

Change the front end a tiny bit and it could pass as a Volvo.

I like it. The inside does not feel up to date like the new C-Class, but still feels like a legit Mercedes.
It's fun to drive around and there aren't many blindspots (believe it or not!). There is more storage area than there appears to be in pictures. The GLA 45 AMG is kinda crazy, fast, cool. But, the more pedestrian GLA is pretty good.
My only complaint is that it's a larger vehicle with the utility of a well equipped higher-end German hatch (think A3).

Passed one on the highway this weekend, in my brief view of it my opinion is that it's stupid and pointless (no offense to anyone reading this that has one). There's barely more storage room than you'd find in a C class probably (given more vertical space with the rear seats folded down vs going through the trunk into the cab in a C).
The design doesn't lend itself to a Hatchback classification really. So the fact that you're paying that premium for an "SUV" that provides no SUV benefits, isn't quite a crossover, isn't quite a wagon, and isn't quite a hatch befuddles me.

It is the compact SUV equivalent of the X6.
Or in other words, crap.

Is that the QX50? How does it actually compare? They're almost the same price, but the Infiniti seems to offer way more space, options, and POWER per dollar.

I don't think the fact that it doesn't fit properly into SUV/CUV categories should be held against it. It would be hard to justify the cost over something like a CX-5 or even a well-equipped Golf, though.

A lot of the German AMG guys call it an A-class by mistake frequently.
I don't like trying to classify things. I just know that me and Peru much everyone else in my shop really like them. Some of us are thinking about leaving them. And if AMG ever does a master lease program I will probably get a GLA45. Those are crazy fast and nearly keep up with the 63's until about 80 or so. A drag race could easily be won or lost by driver skill.

You're right, it's not so much holding that against it as much as it just my own confusion about what segment they're really going after. I saw another one last night and am still very confused by it. I guess they're trying to get a piece of all the relevant segments, which they probably will, so I guess it's a success in that regard.
